Delivered unto Death.

Isn't it highly disheartening that at this time and age people still chase evil spirits by flogging their host? Some to ahead to inflict all manners and dimensions of pain all in the name of sending the evil spirit aways and they charge heavily for this useless service☹️☹️. I had a patient,  A 22-year old mother of twins who unfortunately was a victim of this madness. When she was initially admitted her relatives said she slipped and fell in the bathroom, really funny because, it was visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that there was more. You don't get deep injuries, charred skin, bruises and burns from a bathroom fall, come up with something better!  You don't tell such lies in the hospital, you'll finally say the truth. You need help, don't you??  The truth did come out.  What happened? She  was being maltreated by her in-laws, as a result she fell really sick and they went ahead to conclude that it was as a result of the evil spirit in her. Moreso t...

The empty jar.

Image
Is there any place better than the hospital to see things?? I feel like everything happens in the hospital. People from all walks of life come for one reason or the other and the interesting part is you have to say whatever brought you the way it is , no hiding stuffs if not your issue will follow you home. Speaking of issues, at a hospital where I once worked, something happened. A lady came to the hospital for issues relating to infertility , part of the investigations required was to examine her husband's sperm.  About two days later the husband came to the hospital alone ,he saw the Doctor and he was told what needed to be done. He had to produce sperm, which would be put in a jar and sent to the lab. So we gave him one of the private rooms in the hospital to do what he had to do. Oga came out much later, with an empty jar. 😲😲. What will we send to the lab?? So I asked "oga what Happened?"  " Erm nurse abeg come , the thing ehn e hard me small my sister wan f...

My Native Doctor patient 😂

Image
I've nursed babies, teachers farmers business men etc but again I've nursed a native doctor , yesso Babalawo, oboh, ezemuo or whatever they call it in your dialect. It happened to be while I was a student during one of my clinical postings. A practical exam was to be conducted at the end of the posting and  each student nurse would be asked questions about patients at random.  Now as expected no one wanted to have this native doctor as their patient but interestingly the only thing you can do is wish , hope or pray. This our native doctor guy had a very toxic behavior🤤, but wallahi I wasn't surprised .  The injury on his leg prevented him from ambulating at will , so he was restricted from going physical. Restricted because, he made up for that loss with the most toxic and inhumane words and I'm convinced that he would have beaten other patients up could he walk. I also heard someone asked him where his gods were when he was  shot (because it was a bullet wound) oga...

Nurses and corpses

Image
When a patient dies, there's a need to properly 'package' the body, so it looks presentable and fits into the coffin properly . This process is what we call last office. First time I saw last office being done was in school during clinical posting. An elderly woman died and the needful had to be done.   Usually before carrying out a procedure on a patient, you should seek consent, but I wasn't expecting that for a corpse!!  To my greatest  shock , my Matron asked the dead woman for permission to carry out last office on her. Ahh , see me see wahala ooo . When we got to the woman's bedside , I was expecting us to just go ahead, the next thing I heard was "Mama abeg I wan dress your body ooo , make I do??" Please don't ask me if she answered ooo or gave permission 🤣 .I was as shocked as you probably are now.  While we were at it, we tried to take of the woman's shirt but it was difficult because she was slightly on the big side, and being lifeless m...

Matron , he's not stable ooo!!!😱😱

I had just learnt how to give injections a only few days back, which means I was still not confident and not exactly a pro yet. Usually my Matron would stand by me and watch me give the injections,  telling me to divide the buttocks into four quadrants with the wet cotton wool. Although most of these would be done using gestures (we sure didn't want the patients feeling like they were being handled by a novice lol😄). After some time she was confident that I could give injections, so she'd just let me do my thing and she was no longer standing by me .  This would be like the second time I was giving an injection without her supervision. It felt really good mostly because I had just finished 200l and in the few times I went for clinical postings , I didn't have any opportunity to give and injection. I was super excited about resuming 300l with this new skill 😝.   As soon as the guy lowered his trousers, OMG🤭🤭 I was faced with the blackest butt I had ever seen...

Boyfriends are for biting 😋

Image
One of the reasons you need a boyfriend as a girl is having someone for you to bite when need arises! Yes you read that right. Wait! please  don't attempt to bite me yet, read this story to find out why I said what I said😂   I  was at work one day in the private hospital where I worked and my section was relatively calm, so I just got busy with my phone until I heard this loud ear piercing scream , I immediately stopped pressing my phone . Before I could process it I start hearing more screams in different pictches and frequency.  The only thing that came to my mind, "there must have been a road traffic accident with multiple victims and the nurses downstairs were probably overwhelmed with the workload". Immediately I said to myself you're not doing anything, move downstairs and help! All this thinking and decision-making was done in less than 2 seconds (2 seconds too long sef😂). The superhero in me swung  to action, ready to save the day. I rushed down the st...

What's the biggest embarrassment you've experienced and how did  you deal with it?? I'll tell you my own story. I was still a student nurse  and I was on clinical posting , so I went to labour ward where I was posted to. Now this was my second posting as a student nurse so I wasn't exactly  a pro with the hospital and most procedures. Bear in mind that I was just in 200level and  as a Bsc nurse in training this was my first exposure to the hospital environment unlike my counterparts in school of nursing who would have been exposed since their first year. Just so you know, being posted to a ward as technical and tough as  labour ward as a novice is not one of the nicest things in the world! I hadn't even started maternal and child health nursing in class , so even theoretical knowledge "I no get" but I was asked by my department to go there ,so I went!  As if the forces in the world were against me, this nurse asks me to count the contraction of woman ...

Welcome to my Blog!!!

Image
Hey guys welcome to my blog  "Diary of your favorite nurse." Add caption   Allow me introduce myself, I'm Aitalokhai Mimi but I like to call myself Mimicoco aka your favorite nurse 😜. Yes I'm your favorite nurse even if any of your relatives is a nurse😋. You Know I'm just kidding right, that's just a name I call myself. Anyways if you know me , you'll know that I'm very passionate about my profession. I love being a nurse. I love it when my patients become better and start packing their bags to go home, I love it when patients say stuffs like 'see that nurse o na she help me the other day' . It gives me fulfillment. This is what birthed "Diary of your favorite nurse". I want to tell my nursing story to the whole world.  Secondly, I also would love to change the narrative about nurses, Nigerian nurses in particular. I hate to hear people talk my profession down. While I acknowledge the fact that there are not so good nurses just as t...
