Nurses and corpses

When a patient dies, there's a need to properly 'package' the body, so it looks presentable and fits into the coffin properly . This process is what we call last office.

First time I saw last office being done was in school during clinical posting. An elderly woman died and the needful had to be done.

Usually before carrying out a procedure on a patient, you should seek consent, but I wasn't expecting that for a corpse!!  To my greatest  shock , my Matron asked the dead woman for permission to carry out last office on her. Ahh , see me see wahala ooo . When we got to the woman's bedside , I was expecting us to just go ahead, the next thing I heard was "Mama abeg I wan dress your body ooo , make I do??" Please don't ask me if she answered ooo or gave permission 🀣 .I was as shocked as you probably are now.

While we were at it, we tried to take of the woman's shirt but it was difficult because she was slightly on the big side, and being lifeless meant she couldn't do anything , we were on our own. The only option we had was to cut the shirt with a scissors; are you thinking what I'm thinking??? Yes we had to seek permission from her again, this time around it was beyond permission , my Matron pleaded with her not to be angry oo. She went "mama no vex oo, the shirt no let me comot naim make I year am"
Nawa ohhh, wetin beret no go see for Mercy Chinwo head😯

That's how we kept seeking permission before every step till it ended.
I heard some corpses prove stubborn in the sense that , though they're dead, they won't let you do what you ought to do. Usually happens with people who were diabolic while alive.

Today, I'm a staff nurse, I've lost patients and I've had to do last office so many times. Well I just want to announce to you that I go straight to the point no time to say no timeπŸ˜‚.  Of course, I inform the relatives after I've consoled them, but you see that my matron's style, never!! I've never met a stubborn corpse and I never will Amen.

I just position the the body, tie the thumbs and toes, stuff the orifices with Cotton wool, label and WE MOVE!!😜

Again , no time to say no time🀟
