THE DARKEST NIGHT

 If you saw five corpses in one One night, would you go to work the next day with your full chest??? I wouldn't be wrong if I say being a medical practitioner is quite depressing sometimes.  

The many unpleasant sights , ugly scenarios and constant deaths amplified by the fact that sometimes you're completely helpless and can do absolutely nothing makes it what it is.

In one night at the emergency unit,we received the corpse of a 9months old baby, a 7 year old school girl, a 40year old woman, an aged man and the most heart breaking of all a 35year old mother of three who just had her fourth baby about 3 hours back. And that's who this story is about.

She, like many other women out there , patronized a quack when she fell into labour. Apparently she had been a regular customer but the odds were not in her favour that day ; actually  beyond  that they were clearly against her.

I'd try to make this story as brief as I can.

According to the report given, she was delivered of a baby minutes past 9:00pm but she kept on bleeding till past 1:00am. Reading this story, I ask you do you need to be a medical personnel to tell that anyone at all (worse of all ,a woman who just delivered) who has bled for over three hours is in a critical state and moreso requires urgent attention?? Do you??

This quack (they never agree that they're quacks but no professional will display such level of negligence)  clearly saw that the situation was beyond her but she wouldn't refer the woman to a higher health facility (which is the right thing to do). According to her this woman's blood level dropped from 40%-20% .While I don't believe her (because she doesn't have a laboratory, I wonder who gave her figures), but she needed no other cue to move the woman to a better facility.

Now what did they say about that love of money again? The root of all evil not so?? Because if it isn't, why would she come  to our hospital to buy blood instead of bringing the woman to the hospital?? I mean whyyyy😭😭 ???  I'll tell you what I think , blood transfusion obviously was a major procedure for her and that would translate to some cool cash (how powerful is greed). And if she had succeeded by chance , that would be a great advertisement to capture more customers because obviously there was "nothing she couldn't handle"

It did become a case too hot to handle for her because at about past 2:00am , they finally came to our facility. But sadly the woman died on the road. 

Now  in trying to find out what exactly caused the bleeding, the quack was questioned. She had an answer, you didn't think she'd be lost for words, did you? They usually have this thing well mapped out.

She claimed,the woman only had a small tear during delivery which she promptly repaired. This is not an uncommon occurrence during delivery but it was an obvious lie. 

While she was still being questioned,I went into the room where the woman's corpse laid, doubled my gloves and checked the dead  woman's vagina for where the 'so called' repair was done. You're right, I found nothing, absolutely nothing!

Tell me , how evil can one be😭. This was an avoidable death. But she's only one out of many .

Relatives cried, prayed, commanded her to come back to life but what had happened had happened. All those were efforts in futility. Three innocent children had just been rendered motherless.

Did I mention that her dad fainted? He did. He had lost his first wife, remarried and still lost her, lost his first daughter also and he just lost another daughter. He refused to accept. He kept telling us to attend to her. But what could we do??🤷🤷

Somehow the family never blamed the quack. She had done no wrong in their sight according to them  she did what she could do ,at some point the woman requested for food , so there was no way it could have been her fault. Should I tell them?? Should I tell them that if third stage of labour was managed properly , there would have been no bleeding leading to death?? Should I tell them that the tiniest retained product in the uterus could have made her bleed to death?What use would it be? 

Quacks should never be patronized, no matter how minor the situation might seem. Seek medical advice only from a professional.

That night still remains my darkest☹️☹️. I do not wish to see any darker night till I stop practising.
